PADI Assistant Instructor (AI)

 MAKE IT LEGENDARY

Instructor level – where only few divers arrive. Learn with the best

The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) is the first part of the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI).

As a certified Assistant Instructor in active teaching status, you can assist during the knowledge development, demonstrate skills during dives in shallow water under the direct supervision of a diving instructor, as well as perform open water skills during the Open Water Diver Course.

To become a PADI Assistant Instructor, you must participate in the Instructor Development Course (IDC), which is divided into two parts:

  • Assistant Instructor Course (AI): 2-3 days
  • Open Water Scuba Instructor Program (OWSI): 5-7 days

Most diving professionals participate in the complete IDC and then take the final exam, the Instructor Exam (IE).

The IE or Instructor Exam is a two-day assessment program in which candidates are assessed for their teaching and skill demonstration, theoretical knowledge, and diving skills. You must prove control over your skills, prove your professionalism and good attitude as well as the knowledge of the PADI standards.

The Diving Instructor Exam (IE) is conducted by PADI, so an additional course and membership fee is to be paid directly to PADI for administration and certification. Contact us for more detailed information.

If you only have a limited amount of time available, you can split the IDC into two sections. The first is the Assistant Instructor Course (AI). Once you feel like, you can complete the OWSI program, and then participate in the instructor exam.

To start the Assistant Instructor Course, you must be a certified Divemaster (or higher) and have at least 60 logged dives (100 to participate in the IE). You must also have completed a valid First Aid Course (EFR) within the last 24 months.

With PADI eLearning you can complete the theoretical part of your diving course comfortably at home before your holidays. Skip the classroom and better spend your time in Lanzarote underwater or on the beach. Relax and make the most out of your holidays with PADI eLearning. No extra charges.

What does the PADI Assistant Instructor Course look like?

During the program, your PADI IDC STAFF Instructor and/or Course Director will teach you how to run and teach PADI courses. You will learn how to teach courses, organize, and present courses, conduct skills sessions and supervise dives.

The main topics are the PADI standards and procedures, the learning and teaching system as well as the risk management and safety of divers.

You will learn to understand the diving industry and your role and responsibilities as an Assistant Instructor. You will also receive marketing and sales advice for diving.
