Museo Atlantico in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote
MAKE IT LEGENDARY
Explore the Museo Atlántico – The Underwater Museum in Lanzarote
The Underwater Museum in Lanzarote, also known as “Museo Atlántico”, is the one of only a few Underwater Museums in the world. It is a unique dive that you should experience at least once in a lifetime. Starting from the port of Playa Blanca the museum is only a short boat right away from the cost. The dive site has a depth of 10 to14 meters and is suitable for divers of all experience levels, from beginners to experienced divers. The focus for this dive is on the artistic sculptures and its surroundings. In addition, you will also encounter amazing marine life!
The project was initiated in 2017 by the british artist Jason deCaires Taylor. The Underwater Museum has an area of about 50 x 50 meters on sandy soil and a reef in which many species live. It features a series of stunning and thought-provoking sculptures placed on the seafloor, designed to evolve over time as artificial reefs. Each group of sculptures tells a story or conveys a message about society, the environment, or human impact on the natural world.
The environment is protected and offers a safe place for breeding. Common visitors to the museum are angel sharks, sardines, parrot fish, barracudas and many more. We want to protect the environment and marine life during the dive, so we remind all our divers to show the greatest respect for the underwater world and not to touch or damage sculptures nor marine life.
Boat diving in Playa Blanca
Depth: 10-25m
Dive sites: Underwater Museum, Punta Berruga, Las Coloradas, Las Lenguas, Emisario, Punta Gines
When diving in the south we drive to the port of Playa Blanca and start from there by boat. Usually, one dive is at the Underwater Museum, whilst the second one will a reef dive at one of the spots nearby.
Not a certified diver yet but want to dive at the museum?
Good news! If you are a non-certified diver you can also dive the Underwater Museum. However, the dive site does not offer a shallow water area for initial practice. Therefore, non-certified divers must first complete the PADI Discover Scuba Diving from shore in Playa Chica. In shallow water you will practice the most important fundamental basics in shallow water to feel comfortable and enjoy your first dive experience to a depth of 6 meters. After the successfully completing the initial try dive, you are ready for the boat dive at the Underwater Museum and dive to a maximum depth of 12m.
Availability – Important!
Please be aware that the boat capacity is limited and spots are usually sold out in advance. We recommend you to book as early as possible. Contact us in case the online calendar does not show further availabilities. We might be able to arrange an additional boat departure to accommodate you (Whatsapp: +34662090159).
